His inestimable ability to write dick jokes that actually make you laugh instead of cringe (entire careers have been based on less) and to come up with oddball, yet specific and authentic behavior, can obscure the expert level of craft that has gone into the structure and narrative flow of his script.
It's a neat slight-of-hand by playwright and director Rob Mersola, whose humor is drawn from a keen observation of loneliness, need, and insanely self-destructive behavior.
Yet somehow, we see ourselves in this harebrained assortment of hot messes.
These are the kind of people for whom the decision to sleep in the same bed without someone getting or giving a blow job is a step towards emotional maturity.
Josie (Sadie Alexandru) is a neurotic, beguilingly hopeful single woman reveling in the fact that she has racked up two whole weeks of dating Harlan (Michael Alperin) a hunky film student and player who is everything she says she doesn't want in a man.
