softside waterbed?

I have a current platform queensize bed and i want to replace the mattress. can i get a softside waterbed mattress and place it on the existing platform with no side supports? would i need more supports on the bottom? also who has an opinion on wave/waveless/tube

I used to have a SS waterbed that sat on a regular bed frame with slats, so I would imagine your platform would work. My mattress had one single bladder, and was waveless. I was very happy with it.
