Espresso Finish King Size Platform Storage Bed

Our King Platform Storage Beds combine extra large drawers for plenty of storage space with a slat support system that requires only a mattress. Wood slats are positioned lengthwise to distribute body weight evenly, minimize the amount of motion transfer and take the place of a box-spring. Metal braces under the slats provide additional stability. Underneath are 6 large storage drawers (20* depth) that run on smooth running metal drawer glides. Drawers open easily with finger pulls located at the bottom of drawer fronts and knobs have been eliminated to prevent bedclothes from catching. They are large enough to hold anything you need to store: linens, blankets, clothes, socks and even shoes are just a few ideas. I bought this with the matching bookcase headboard and I have many positive comments about both. First - the price. Out of four local furniture stores, only one of them had a similar item and it cost over $3,000. Second - shipping. I was certain that at least one of the boxes would arrive with a crushed corner or dented flat spot (don't they always?), but the items arrived without dents or bruises even though the exterior cardboard took a few hits. The packing is ingenious and sufficient . . . and heavy. Third - the construction took a lot of time, but it was enjoyable. I worked slowly by myself over several days, gluing every joint with carpenters glue where ever bare wood touched bare wood. I did use a third hand helper a couple of times, but very, very rarely. If you take your time and work smartly, you could actually assemble this thing by yourself. The glue will make a big difference in the final result. My bed and headboard are sturdy as a rock.

We were sleeping on a water bed previously, and never did a night would pass when both of us would not wake up between two and three AM to visit the bathroom. I've put a Select Comfort mattress on this platform frame, and now we sleep straight through the night, only getting up in the middle of the night about two or three times a month. The big difference is that this frame absolutely does not move one millimeter when either partner gets up or moves around. You won't be wakened by the other person, so you will sleep better without interruption. I cannot believe how much of a difference this made in our sleep quality.

For the price and the functionality, this bed frame is a great value. It will not win any beauty contests, but it looks great for what it is, and it is not flimsy. I'm glad that I chose this item.

This item comes in three heavy boxes. There are many parts and pieces to assemble. Separate screws, pins, brackets, all in little cups to start. Make plenty of extra room where your pieces are, it is going to get messy fast. In the end you will get a nice product. It takes more than one person to built this bed. It would be great if they actually show you step by step but they leave some steps out, and leave too many in. The bed alone took 3 hours, not to mention I have not started on the draws yet. It is very sturdy and very heavy furniture. If you have hardwood floors use the slide guides for heavy furniture to move this unit. If you drink beer it will take a lot longer to complete.

The instructions are very easy to follow and this setup is fantastic if you want a king bed in a small bedroom. For us, anything that was even remotely prebuilt we would never have gotten it up our old 70's style stairs due to size, let alone through the door, so this is the perfect option: you carry the pieces up and build it in your bedroom, no need for removing windows to get large furniture in.

Very solid and stable. Occasional creak but nothing major. The only downside is that it is VERY time consuming to put together, but fun I guess. With my arthritic health issues (I'd advise a kneeling cushion if you have sore/bad knees whem putting this all together) took me three nights at about 5 hours each night, would have gone faster if I had a second person to help.

My husband and I purchased this Espresso finish, King size storage bed with 6 drawers in November of 2008 from AAA Furniture. It took ten days to arrive by ground freight. We are happy with the finished product and are glad we purchased the bed. I expect it to meet our needs for the next 3 - 5 years until we can afford higher quality furniture. We live in a small, modern condominium, and the design of this bed fits in with our simple and clean style of living.

Our king size storage bed arrived flat-packed in three separate boxes. Each of the boxes were VERY heavy and required a two-person lift for safety. One of the boxes weighed nearly 60 pounds. Although the bed is constructed of laminated particle board and pine, don't be fooled, it is a very heavy piece of furniture once it is put together. You absolutely need two people to put this together safely (and with a minimum of frustration). The components of the bed were well-protected in their packages and we did not find any scratches or broken pieces. The company did a very thorough job packaging the components. They seem to take pride in their product. Notably (and happily!) absent was the chemical smell you often get with laminate furniture. This furniture did not have any chemical odor at all.

When we unpacked the boxes and counted the pieces of hardware, we were disappointed to discover we were missing one screw and one bolt from the necessary hardware. Using PrePacs's internet page we we were able to order the missing items, free, and they were shipped to us in 72 hours. If you put the bed together on a weekend, the website will be your best option if there is a problem, as the call center is only open Monday through Friday.

To construct this bed all you will need is: Two people, a philips screwdriver, a hammer, and an allen key (provided in the hardware). Two adults who are reasonably mechanically inclined or who have experience putting together flat-packed furniture, should find this task reasonably simple. From start to finish, the King size storage bed with six drawers took my husband and I four and a half hours to assemble at a reasonable pace. We were able to put the bed together with a minimum of frustration and no arguments!

NOTE: The directions were easy to follow, but careful attention to detail is still required, as we had one or two "Gotcha!" moments from misunderstanding a diagram. I recommend that you carefully read the directions and check off each step as you complete it; in order that you do not miss anything or make a mistake. Before you start building your bed, I recommend counting each piece of hardware and putting each type (screws, nails, etc) into a separate plastic cup and labeling the cup. Organizing the hardware and checking each step off as you go speeds up the process of building the bed and you won't worry that you missed a step.

The finished bed is sturdy and feels stable. It does not creak or move at all when you get into it, and does not make any noise at all when you roll over in the middle of the night, which I am thrilled about. We also purchased the king size storage headboard with this product and are very happy with it. This is not the highest quality furniture, but it looks more expensive than it actually is - and if you take care of it; it should last a good few years until you can afford something better.

We've dressed up our bed with a lovely bright red duvet and some pillows from Ikea and it looks very nice. I would recommend this piece of furniture to a friend.

we had read reviews about this bed before purchasing it and other people had mentioned that it was difficult to put together. i think the issue is that it is time consuming. this is not a bed frame. it is a platform bed which is taking the place of your box-spring. the entire foundation needs to be built. that being said, the directions were easy to follow, all parts were included and they even provide you with a phone number to call should you run into any difficulty. (only available M-F)my husband put together this piece and the matching headboard on his own and it took him 9 hours, so you may want to plan on having a helper. on the whole we are extremely pleased with our purchase. it is a sturdy, beautiful piece of furniture and fits in perfectly with a simple, modern style.

I live in a very small apartment and probabley own way too many shoes than I need however still not wanting to throw any out I had a serious shoe storage problem on my hands! The plastic under the bed shoe storage bags usually over time always ripped and the cardboard inserts I hated or the other style with the vinyl inserts the shoes never stayed where they were supposed to! With that being said this was the next best thing to a solution. I wanted something on wheels made of wood and fairly reasonable. I hate assembling anything but this wasn't that bad ladies you CAN do it. It's a strong under bed storage drawer with wheels. The only thing is if you have carpet the wheels don't roll as easily as I would have liked. I also went out and bought a handle and screwed it into the front to make pushing it in and out easier a mere $4.00 dollar investment well worth it. I also went a step further and called this company to ask them to please make us ladies one with compartments for the shoes (made of wood of course) that I think it would be a tremendous seller!!! Hopefully they will listen and we can all benefit from a descent under bed storage for shoes instead of having to deal with the crappy plastic ones any longer. I didn't give it five stars only because of the wheels not rolling as easily on carpet, no shoe compartments which is what I just happen to be using it for, and no handle to make it pull out easier. You can stain it yourself to make it look more appealing as well. All in all It is 10 times better than the plastic one and I am satisfied with the construction as well. It did the job and is a good product!

I have been reading some of the reviews about this platform bed and some people definitely are way too picky. First off this bed looks awesome when it is fully completed! If you can take your time and follow the directions this bed will go together perfectly. Everything fits together with no flaws when you do it right. All of the building is pretty basic, its just a lot of screwing screws. There was not one challenging part and the instructions were very well written and easy to understand with visuals. I put 2 corner braces (Top & Bottom) on each side just to give it some extra support and sturdiness.

The worst part about the bed were the pieces of wood that the actual mattress sits on. There was 9 long planks of wood that go vertically across. Personally I found them pretty cheaply made and decided to buy some plywood to cut out and place on top of it. Fixes any potential problems and gives a sturdier support for the mattress. The outside can scratch fairly easily, so just be careful when around it. We bought the headboard to go with it and it makes the entire bed look that much better!

We purchased this when it was on sale for $297 and for that price it can't be beat. There was a total of about 4-5 hours spent putting it together with one person. Your going to need a Phillips head screwdriver and hammer. Honestly the hardest part of this whole bed was breaking down the 3 boxes it all came in to throw into the trash. Those things were double or triple layered with cardboard box.

I definitely am glad I purchased this storage bed and it's exactly what I expected.

I bought this for the storage and the fact that it was a platform bed. But the drawers don't fit flush with the bed and you have to be VERY careful because the bottoms or really thin and cheap the "platform" is really just a bunch of boards that are to short and always shift around. So I am ALWAYS having to left the mattress up and move the boards back into place.

The bed fits are needs for the price, but you get what you pay for the material used is still out gasing and leaves a bad odor. The drawers work and look okay but will always have to be carefull pulling them out. The bed does look very nice with a queen mattress only no box springs needed.

The IKEA-style assembly of this bed does, as other reviews indicate, leave something to be desired in terms of sturdiness and creakiness. However, with a couple extra hours and about $25 worth of apparatus from the hardware store, it's easy to build this thing solid as a rock. If you've got the time and the inclination, you'll end up with a surprisingly high quality piece of furniture. (And it doesn't look cheap either.) Total assembly time, with the modifications, was about five hours for a moderately capable guy with a drill and a six-pack of High Life. You'll also need a companion to help hold things together as you're slotting together the bigger bits.

If this sounds intimidating, it's actually pretty easy. Just buy the hardware and things will be pretty intuitive once you're done slogging through the directions and you return to this.

You will need the following from the hardware store. Just ask someone there if you're unfamiliar, and they'll point you right to it:

8 2.5inch/63mm "corner braces"

A box of wood screws that are sized 6x5/8. The corner braces may come with screws, but these will be 3/4in or longer, and will poke through the wood. You're going to use the 6x5/8 screws with the corner braces.

A box of wood screws that are 1.5 inches long. Just get the narrowest ones they have, whatever gauge that may be. If they don't have something 1.5 inches, anything in that neighborhood will do.

15 feet of 1/2in wide heavy duty felt tape. (Get six rolls of the stuff and you won't run out.)

STEP 1: Before you install the slats on which the bed will rest and connect the whole thing together, stick a strip of felt across the top of the two inside support beams. This will help keep the beams from rattling around under your mattress.

STEP 2: Once you have assembled the frame, take the longer wood screws and drill them down through each slat into the support beams, right through the felt. Make it nice and tight.

STEP 4: Cut the felt tape into 3 inch strips and, without removing the wax paper backing, slip them into the slots where the ends of the slats are fitted, using a flathead screwdriver to stuff them in if you have problems. This will tighten the ends so that they don't rattle around in the metal bracket.

STEP 5: Drill the corner braces using the 6x5/8 screws into each of the four corners. It will be obvious where to put them: you're just trying to firm up the connection between the side beams and the ends, so that they don't flex around. I found it helpful to put the top four horizontally (directly above the slats) and bottom four vertically (like an L, inside the opening where the drawer will go). Don't worry that you will impinge on the drawers -- there's room.

(It's also helpful to run some felt tape along the bottom of the bed, especially if you have wood floors, so that you can move it around without scratching.)

Congrats, you now have an extremely solid (and subtly classy looking) bed. And you spent $350, not $800.

My mother in law ordered this bed for my husband and I after we moved into our new apartment. I put it together fairly easily but it was missing parts (some nails). While the instructions were clear the draws didn't fit quite right into the slots and are crooked on both sides. The slats make loud popping type noises when anyone (including our 25 lb dog) gets onto the bed, which apparently our neighbors below us can hear. While this frame was very cheap and has lasted several months I would have much rather spent a bit extra for something that actually looked put together. I really hate looking at all the draws which some don't close all the way, others are crooked, and the mattress doesn't quite fit properly. All in all I would recommend saving your money and buying something else!
