I was recently in a new condo with a client and I was instantly taken back to my university days and one of the tiny apartments where I lived. I used to say that it was designed by Superman as a place to change; the only thing that was missing was the phone book. I have no idea what Clark Kent would do today if he had to change quickly, although the condos I’ve been visiting seem to have the same square footage as his telephone booth.
The owner said that a friend had asked why she would hire a design firm for such a small space and she responded by saying that was exactly why. The planning of a very small space is crucial to a successful home and requires just about every trick in the design book. Planning for a small home may well be the source of the phrase “no room for error.”
