A class of 25 fourth-graders from Columbia Elementary School in Redding donated 50 handmade pocket pillows for foster children with Krista Foster Homes on Shasta Street in Redding.
After completing a Christmastime sewing project with rice-filled neckwarmers in December with her class, Selah Johnson, 9, wanted to bring the sewing aspect back to the community service program where they planned to reach out to foster kids.
"I took some home, turned them inside out and stuffed them," she said while neatening the pillows inside a box and rereading the notes she and her classmates left personally for the recipients.
The large cardboard box decorated with a variety of multicolored markers read the message: "Dream Big."
Inside the pockets attached to the pillows made from fun, colorful patterns with butterflies, robots and stars, the students left a mini beanbag animal toy along with an encouraging note.
