Last night was the first night I slept soundly, comfortably, in years.

I've had to sleep on a futon mattress on uncomfortable boxsprings for more years than I care to admit. Mattresses in my area are costly and the delivery charges outrageous. I had no idea Amazon had them until I did an oddball search. That's how I came across the Textrade Mattress in a Box.

If there had not been positive revues of this product, I never would have tried it. I mean, seriously, a mattress in a box? And one that was vacuum-sealed at that. Sure doesn't sound like it would work - or be comfortable even if it did inflate properly.

But the price - and reviews - made it a tempting deal and I decided to try it. It was a plus that it was delivered to my door. (Unfortunately FedEx ripped the packaging. More on that later.) The mattress is literally in a box, rolled up. The box has wheels and a handle to make it easy to transport for anyone - including those who live in older homes or apartments with narrow staircases. (The wheels are awesome and you could remove them from the box to reuse for another project, for you DIYers out there.)

It was actually fun to watch the whoosh of air fill the mattress - and watch it grow. The instructions say to put it flat on the floor and leave for 4-6 hours so it fills to capacity. I wasn't able to do that (and after 3 hours I had to put a cover on because my dog decided she was tired of sleeping on the floor), and the mattress is flanked by two walls. One side is slightly sloped (not uncomfortable), but I know if I let more air in, it will be OK. Be sure to allow it to fill up properly and put it in a room with a door so no one (i.e. pets) can bother it.)

I purchased this with the Pragma Bed® Mattress Platform - Queen. No Box Spring needed. Ideal for memory foam, latex, and air mattresses. and the Luna Premium Hypoallergenic Waterproof Mattress Protector - Queen Size - Made In The USA. After setting up the box springs - which was incredibly easy - I put the box on top of the springs for added support. (Also great for PPL who sleep on futons.) We unrolled the mattress on top and snipped away the plastic.

Shipping: This is a FedEx-delivered product. Typically, my purchases come via UPS. The driver complained that it was heavy and I actually thought I would have to get on the truck to take it out. She had me sign, but didn't tell me the packaging was ripped. I didn't discover how badly until she was already leaving. (I apparently wasn't quick enough on my feet that day.)

One of the great things about this is that the box has wheels and a handle to make it easy to move around. It would have been a cinch to get into the house - if the entire lid had not been ripped off. It was hanging by a small piece of tape, which prompting broke off as I grabbed the handle. The driver made certain the lid looked like it was on as she pushed it out of the truck. I started really inspecting the packaging as the driver left and took photographs, which I sent to Amazon. I'm not sure how it is in your area, but I have had many items delivered broken or in bad packaging by FedEx. Never UPS.

So, the mattress rocks. The shipping did not. Fortunately, there was nothing wrong with the mattress when I inspected it. It is double-wrapped for added protection and the thick plastic covering it makes it pretty difficult to damage. However, without the lid - where the handle is - the box was difficult to manage.

My husband & I decided on this bed after much research & deliberation. We moved 1600 miles, decided not to bring any furniture with us & we didn't have a large budget to work with. The mattress came within a couple days of placing our order in a box that was very easy to roll into the bedroom & open up. There is a lot of packaging, but once you get through all of it, the mattress pops open & quickly forms to its normal shape & size. It has a mild odor at first, but aired out within 12 hours or so. The mattress is the most comfortable one either of us has ever slept on & within the first week we were both better rested & my husbands chronic back pain is beginning to subside. No, I am sure that it is not the same as sleeping on a $1000+ mattress, however, for the price it is impossible to complain about the quality. Definitely would recommend if this is the budget range you are working with.

I love this bed after letting it air up, my husband and I laid down on it and didin't want to get up after that. I slept all day because I was just so comforable I didn't want to get up. We dont use a box spring with it cause it doesn't need one. I like it. Although, It is heavier than crap I had to have my husband carry it up stairs and he even had problems with it and he's a marine.

This mattress was way better than I expected. I really thought it was not going to be soft at all, but it is. The ease of having it all rolled up was fabulous. I am going to get one for my daughter now. I would recommend this item

I too was a little skeptical about a mattress in a box. It arrived at my doorstep (surprisingly fast shipping), in wheeled box--easy to transport. As soon as I spread it out and sliced through the plastic, the mattress immediately returned to its resting form. The mattress is fairly comfortable and will likely improve with better foundation. The price is very reasonable, especially with the free shipping.

Maybe it's us. But this memory foam mattress, while it has distinct advantages, seems too mushy. This seems to be the case with most cheaper memory foam mattresses. It's comfortable, and does not have the problems with overheating while sleeping that other memory foam mattresses have, but we're not sure we can live with it.

I'm really starting to wonder if Temperpedic is the only way to go when it comes to this kind of a mattress.

I ordered around 1am on 7/12. Got the mattress delivered by the time I came home from work 7/13. I live in southern CA which is also from where they ship. I had to review this item because I have always wanted a memory foam but couldn't afford the >$2000 price of name brands. The mattress fully inflated in about 2 hours and the smell was gone in about 2 days. I was also surprised to see it had the bamboo cover instead of the plain cotton cover. When I laid on it while it was airing out, I fell asleep before I knew it. I'm a stomach sleeper, but a memory foam pillow will greatly enhance your sleep with this mattress. Until then, I think I will have to sleep on my back. My girlfriend was hesitant at first, because she likes plush beds, but the first nights sleep had her sold. I prefer firm beds and I believe this bed is right inbetween and a good fit for us. Summer weather makes it pretty hot here, so I can't comment on if the bed is cool or not.

A little note before the review:

I HIGHLY suggest purchasing your mattress through their eCrater website because it has a much bigger selection (The 12 inch twin is not listed on Amazon, but is on their site for only $339) All the prices are the same on their site as they are here, with free shipping as well.

While ordering the mattress, my credit card didn't go through, so I tried again and it worked fine. This caused me to get two emails with different order numbers, but only one was paid for. I emailed their customer support explaining this, and they promptly replied back (2 hours) saying, "We know, we will only ship two mattresses".

The mattresses were ordered on Monday, and they arrived Saturday. I was surprised FedEx delivers on Saturday, but whatever. They ship from California, so 5 or 6 days is not bad at all. And it's free.

When they got here they were vacuum packed in plastic, with an outer layer of cardboard. Mine were a little taller than a laundry hamper and they weighed 60 pounds. It is in the shape of a cylinder, if that matters. (The size will be much different for a queen or king of course).

IMPORTANT PART! So before purchasing the mattress I did research, and found you should put the mattress on a flat surface for best use. I previously had a box spring and mattress on top of that. I took both of those off, and underneath were slates (This bed was kind of old). So I went to Home Depot and bought some plywood and had it cut for only $20. I laid that across the slates and it fit perfectly.

Then, I took off the cardboard from the mattress and it was wrapped in two layers of plastic. I cut through the first, then second and then rolled it along my bed. It is very thin when you first unroll it and is easily adjusted to fit inside the frame. Then in about 5 minutes it looked very inflated and almost done (They say it takes a few hours, but I think mine only took one hour).

As for the smell, if you returned your mattress because of the smell, you have some serious problems. I opened it and noticed no smell at all. BUT, after it inflated there was a FAINT smell, which quite honestly I think smells pretty good. I set the bed up at 8 PM and went to bed at around 2 AM. People say they air it out for a day or so but seriously, it was fine. Keep in mind, there of TWO of these beds in the same room, set up at the same time. So if I can sleep the first night with two beds in one room, you should be fine with only one.

Now, this mattress feels almost exactly like the Tempurpedic beds. I did try out a Tempurpedic at a local mattress store before buying just to see what it feels like, I strongly recommend you do too. The first night while trying to fall asleep, it felt different, and took about 15-30 minutes to fall asleep (About my normal time on my old mattress). I woke up in the morning feeling perfectly fine with no pains what so ever. The next night was much better, I fell asleep in about 5 minutes, which is much faster than I normally do. And I didn't/haven't woken up in the middle of the night EVER since buying this mattress.

Every night after that has been the same, I find a good position and fall asleep fast, and wake up feeling refreshed, most of the time in the same position I fell asleep in. I have even laid on my bed during the day, and fallen asleep for two hours even though I wasn't tired! Some people say they get really hot with these kind of mattresses. I tested this by laying down for a while, and feeling the mattress under me, and honestly, it was almost the same temperature as the other parts that weren't covered. I would say it keeps much less heat than my old spring mattress.

So to sum it up, if you like memory foam mattresses, THIS is the one you should buy. You can't beat the price, and it is almost, if not exactly the same as Tempurpedic. I suggest you go with the 12 inch version because it offers 2 more inches of memory foam which is a plus.

If I could describe this mattress is one word it would be...bliss. It is extremely comfortable and gives my girlfriend and I the best sleep either of us have had in years. We both wake more refreshed in the morning. The only problem we have had so far is that we want to take naps during the day just because the bed is so wonderful.

I was concerned about buying a non name brand mattress, but am extremely impressed by the quality and comfort of this mattress. Neither of us can tell a difference between this mattress and the more expensive brand name.

The mattress came packaged very very well. There were multiple layers protecting the actual product. While it took awhile to unwrap, there is no chance of damage in-transit. It was extremely compact, in a tube, and easy to get to our room. There was a distinct smell to the mattress after we had unwrapped it (as other posts had mentioned); but my girlfriend took care of that with a couple applications of febreeze and a few hours of airing it out. The smell was completely gone after a day or two and did not effect anything.

I would suggest this mattress to everyone who is looking for a new bed! It is one of the best products I have bought. It is soft and supportive at the same time. I really enjoy the fact that my girlfriend can move in the middle of the night and not wake me.

The mattress is definitely comfortable, however there is severe outgassing from this mattress. We've had it over one month in a ventilated room, and the smell is still overpowering. After I did some research on the health hazards of memory foam outgassing, I immediately decided we needed to return this mattress. If you do a search on "mattress outgassing" you'll find many reports of people who started experiencing all kinds of health problems that went away as soon as they removed their mattress. Other articles associate the outgassing to severe diseases like cancer. No level of comfort is worth these reported health risks, especially for my three little kids, so this mattress is going back. I'll report back on how difficult it was to return this 100lb item.

This was my first memory foam mattress and I'm sold! I bought this mattress after looking at the local furniture store and the one I liked was 899 on sale! Got my mattress on Amazon for 529 and couldn't be happier, only complaint was that I needed to air out the mattress for a day because of the chemical smell. I purchased this wonderful bed after weeks of reading reviews, comparing it to other beds, pricing, etc. I am so very glad I decided to purchase this bed. I love it! A good night's sleep is worth a lot, and the price of this, well I just could not believe it!
I just had one problem and it was entirely MY fault! I had mistakenly ordered the wrong size bed. When I realized what I had done, I call Amazon and told them. I was told not to worry about anything. They reordered the RIGHT size bed for me and told me they were putting in a "Pick Up" call to UPS and they would send them the mailing label so I wouldn't be bothered.They also gave me a tracking number so I could check on it. The wrong bed arrived on Monday...UPS picked it up on Wednesday... it was delivered back on Friday...I was notified on Monday my credit card had been credited for the amount of the bed.

When the right bed arrived, we were a little intimidated by the packaging. I had read it was very difficult to remove. Not really. It's all in where you begin to remove it. We unwrapped it on our screened front porch because we were expecting to leave it there for a couple of days because of the odor and for it to expand to its full shape. There again, not really. It had it's shape in a couple of hours and the odor, well you had to bury your face in the mattress to smell it. So we slept on our new bed that very night and it was the best sleep we'd had in years!

First of all, I have never bought anything online. I was worried and nervous when this mattress came looking like a punching bag.
After taking it out of the packaging, the bed unfolded to a perfect queen size mattress. It is really firm but I have had no
back pain and think it is a great mattress. The one problem I have is getting out of bed in the morning!!!!!!!!
Seriously, I have been late to work five times since buying this mattress.. I think I'm going to have to put the alarm clock far from my bed.

It is true that this mattress has no Sarah Peyton branding and that it is made in China, not the USA. However, this mattress is high quality and sleeps every bit as good as any tempur-pedic I have slept on...for 1/10th of the price. I highly recommend this mattress. Very comfortable and the pillows are very nice bonus.

Fit is good (king bed) but not much in the way of padding - I'd say 1/4 inch thick at best. No way it weighs 20lbs, more like 5.

First off, I received a used mattress pad. The one I received had blood on it and I guess Newpoint tried to package it as new.

Secondly, the mattress pad is made in China and the quality is not great. I would have gladly paid more for not going through this trouble.

I don't understand how this product was rated so highly. Perhaps Newpoint paid some ghost reviewers to get more sales. I do NOT recommend buying this.

The seams were coming apart--not sure it would have withstood a wash. Returning it same day.

Have used this product on the instabed I puchased at amazon.
The cover stays in place, and feels quite rich. I have not washed it yet, but will use cold water and no heat dry because of the other reviews. I would highly recommend this slip cover.

Very satisfied with this purchase. The value and quality far exceed the small price! Good buy!
