Could my son be gay? Thanks?
Skittles aksed: My son is almost 18yrs. He's always been the most popular kid in school. He's very athletic, football is his whole life. He texts with at least 6 or 8 girls on a regular basis. But he's never kept a girlfriend longer than a couple weeks.
Last night one of his friends stayed over & I heard them argueing because my son jumped & landed on top of his friend when he got on the bed. Its a large king size bed & his friend kept sayin him landing on him couldnt have been an accident, that he'd had to have moved 3 feet before he jumped on the bed to land on him. This reminded me of a conversation I heard between him & another friend where he said he doesn't care about full on sex, he just wants to get oral sex. His reputation is crucial to him, his appearance must be perfect for school. He irons his clothes every morning & everything must match perfectly. Girls are always all over him, but he just says he doesn't like them like that, they're just friends. He's so homophobic it would not be a good idea to mention this to him. How do I know if my son is struggling with his sexuality? I hate the thought of him living a lie and being miserable.
Does anyone have an experienced opinion? Any ideas how I could find out without making him angry?
I just found out he knows every word to the movie Rocky Horror Picture Show, he's watched it "at least 50 times". Does that mean anything?
Thanks to all who reply.
Shor_loves, you nailed it with this sentance! "From reading your description it seems like he is gay and is afraid, embarrassed, or ashamed of it and tries to hide it and act in a way that no one can find out."
Detective Renee answered: I really disagree with all of the people who are advising you to talk to him about it. Despite whatever evidence you have, the best thing for you to to is make yourself available as an open parent. Let him come to you. It's a disastrous idea for parents to approach their children about this, even when the parents are supportive and their assumptions are correct. There's a reason he's not talking to you about this. Let him have his own time--and be there for him when he comes to you!
Yes, he could be. I don't even have to read your paragraph to know that.
If I were your son, even if he were gay, you shouldn't care enough to ask or need to find out.
Cheers,
Captain Jack.

The Grey Monk
I die, I die!" the Mother said,
"My children die for lack of bread.
What more has the merciless Tyrant said?"
The Monk sat down on the stony bed.
The blood red ran from the Grey Monk's side,
His hands and feet were wounded wide,
His body bent, his arms and knees
Like to the roots of ancient trees.
His eye was dry; no tear could flow:
A hollow groan first spoke his woe.
He trembled and shudder'd upon the bed;
At length with a feeble cry he said:
"When God commanded this hand to write
In the studious hours of deep midnight,
He told me the writing I wrote should prove
The bane of all that on Earth I lov'd.
My Brother starv'd between two walls,
His Children's cry my soul appalls;
I mock'd at the rack and griding chain,
My bent body mocks their torturing pain.
Thy father drew his sword in the North,
With his thousands strong he marched forth;
Thy Brother has arm'd himself in steel
To avenge the wrongs thy Children feel.
But vain the Sword and vain the Bow,
They never can work War's overthrow.
The Hermit's prayer and the Widow's tear
Alone can free the World from fear.
For a Tear is an intellectual thing,
And a Sigh is the sword of an Angel King,
And the bitter groan of the Martyr's woe
Is an arrow from the Almighty's bow.
The hand of Vengeance found the bed
To which the Purple Tyrant fled;
The iron hand crush'd the Tyrant's head
And became a Tyrant in his stead."
klaus answered: > war is our bane
"The Hermit's prayer and the Widow's tear
Alone can free the World from fear."
> prayer works, not more combat for peace
>tyrants are replaced by tyrants

I disagree that the outlook of the poem is pessimistic about man's ability to end tyranny on his own. Rather it admonishes the indignant person to counteract tyranny by refusing to participate in its workings either violently in opposition or complacently in support of a given tyrannical system, as such types of participation serve as the basis for all tyranny.
