Can a futon frame hold a full size box-spring and mattress?

I "gave" my friend a mattress, could I ask for it back?

He has since moved to another apartment and has bought a new full size bed. I can't recall if I said he could have it or if I offered to let him use it. I didn't expect to need it back, so I guess we were both under the impression that he could keep it for a long time?
Since I am moving places soon, I asked him if I could use the futon for a couple of weeks before I secure an actual bed. I plan on asking another friend to help me transport it to my new place.
The thing is my friend wants the futon back after I get an actual bed because he wants to use it for couch surfers (though he has an actual couch). It sort of irked me the way he phrased his response, "Sure, I use it for couch surfers so I would like it back." I guess I still assume that I am the rightful owner even though he is in possession of it. And he obviously thinks the futon is his.
I guess my question boils down to whether or not I am being an Indian giver? And am I responsible for transporting the futon back to him after I am done using it?
answered: Your situation pretty much boils down to this.....you gave him the futon, now you would like it back. unfortunately I think your friend is the riteful owner now. Hes had it for a long time, and doesnt seem to have any morals about giving it back to you now that you need it. I do not think you should ask for it back, not because I think its being an indian giver but because I think your friend would be an ass about it and make a big deal. He should offer it back to you, thats what a good friend does when your in the position to help out your friend. You were a good friend, your buddy doesnt seem to be. Borrow it and then take it back to him. I think you should save your cash and buy a real nice one, get this one nice and stinky and then bring it back to the ingrate. In the future be a little more leary about helping him out. And if he ask why tell him, you needed help and he put limitations on the aid he was giving you.
