“I found this house just by accident,” Mr. Kimmel said. “I saw it on the Internet. It was in very bad shape, but it’s only two minutes away from my job.”
He bought the place in 2007 from what he calls a version of the acrimonious couple in the movie “War of the Roses.”
“The previous owners had completely rebuilt it, including installing a steel cage construction to strengthen it against earthquakes,” he said. “They spent a lot of money on structural and other decorative things.”
Then the couple split up and got divorced. “She apparently destroyed everything she could on the day she moved out,” Mr. Kimmel said. That included removing 85 light switches, 15 interior doors plus their frames, a fireplace and all the radiator panels.

I have antique brown furniture in my bedroom and I want to re-decorate and make it a beach cottage theme?
pinkinmv aksed: I can change everything else, the head board the wall paint and decor but the furniture I cant change, the furniture is..... a make up table, a high boy cabinet with drawers, a wide dresser, another taller skinnier dresser, a desk that folds down to a desk and two end tables next to the bed. Any suggestions?

Now pick an interior bedroom scene with dark wood furniture. Write in the color Rainwashed and copy it onto the walls. The trim should be bright white as should the ceiling. Those are the perfect beach cottage colors. I've done several beach or cottage themed rooms with these colors and clients are in love with the room when they see it.
I agree with the indoor shutters on the windows or for a more polished look, white flowing sheers. Depending on your age, if you're a young person for a bedspread, something like this would be a choice of mine: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product. asp?order_num=-1&SKU=118756&RN=3 1
If older, something more like: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product. asp?order_num=-1&SKU=123300&RN=3 1

Maybe a nice big shell set on a dresser or night stand. Not much more than that, you want to have the affect of uncluttered and breezy.
Maybe you could paint your furniture white or refinish it in a weathered stain. Go with pastels like aqua-peach etc colors. Add some sea shells and things like that for decorations.
Looking for tips on how to paint an old antique bedroom suite white. It is a dark brown wood stain now.?
Freedom aksed: Do I sand it first and what type of white paint do I use for furniture?
answered: My mom used to restore old pieces and resell them to make extra money, which is where I learned how. To do it correctly you will have to strip the old finish off. Then sand it down with a very fine grit sand paper, unless there are deep gouges then you will first want to sand with a heavy grit paper, then follow with a fine. Prime it with a light color white or gray, (not spray paint) you will need an even run free coating. Then again sand with a very fine paper or steel wool. Blow it off with air there cannot be any dust left on it. Then you will have to decide if you want an antique cracked look or a smooth new look. You will want to use enamel for your finish paint, so you can wash off any marks it may pick up over time, because white will show dirt and marks very well. For your final coat, you will want to put a clear finish on to help protect it. Be careful and pre test it so you know if it will turn your color or not. Your local hardware store should be able to help walk you through the process. Or you may want to go to a local paint store for the paint and clear coat. Sometimes they will know more about such products. Use brushes and paint not spray paint. It is to easy to have uneven coverage and runs with spray paint.
