), That overlook this recently resurrected variety.

Arnaut relies on a gradual camera to collar the unexplained relationship between the dim’s particular characters, two women of cryptic age and relationship to each other. They entwine dreamily around a mostly empty apartment, wearing dim pastels and horrendous makeup. As quietly as a mouse, they take up, tit for tat teeming glances from joyless eyes and eat meals off of filigreed china, the support plainly supplied by the inscrutable wounds that they must constantly nurture. Lovers? Sisters? Mam and daughter? Their dumb relationship is red enigmatic. What resonates though is the underhanded and always-hushed vying for psychical power that so often mars female relationships.

Though eternal and placeless (effrontery trumpets, lace curtains, and an iron stove are among the set’s only signifiers, though of what epoch and area it remains unclear), Arnaut distinctly takes cues from the Brothers Grimm, whose individualist fairytales depend upon monastic cabins, forested ground, and favourably sexualized damage for their gravitas and stuffy principle....

'Having the animal prints inside the house is just an extension of who I am'

Leopard print cushions, cheetah mugs, zebra-stripe armchairs and canvas tiger prints as loud as the roaring subjects they depict. You might be forgiven for thinking that a space like this belongs to someone of a slightly, well, wilder disposition than Ronel Barcellos, the founder of Abu Dhabi Wildlife Centre. But surrounding herself with endangered species and the art and craft they inspire has been part and parcel of her own survival.

I was four years old when I started collecting animals. My mother would open my bedroom door and find all the animals that Id brought in from outdoors. Its just something I have always done. Its my path in life and I believe God put me here to take care of them, says Ronel, whose office reflects the constant that animals have played in her sometimes turbulent life.

When she moved to the UAE 15 years ago from her native South Africa she had no idea that, within a few months, she would be losing her husband and gaining two young cheetahs in his place. Most young mothers who find themselves abandoned with two children in a strange country would leave, but when someone who knew that she had wildlife experience asked her to look after two cheetah cubs, she knew that she had found the calling that would be her reason to stay. She started taking in abandoned animals and eventually opened her first wildlife centre. Around the same time she was given a gift by a friend that would spark a passion for collecting animal-themed objects. I got a decorative bowl that had emblems of cheetahs on it and thats what started me collecting because, after that, I would spot animal print items and buy them. Friends then started giving me things as well; anything with an animal motif: scarves, coasters, handbags.

How do I wash antique curtains?

imissrascal asks: They do not have "care tags" on them. My grandma gave them to me and they are from 1940 imported from Europe. The material feels like a thick lace... any ideas? Does anyone have something similar they could reccomend? I took them to the dry cleaners but at the last minute decided on not... she said it was owners risk they may get torn or lost. They mean to much and could never be replaced to do that. Thanks for any ideas!

dimpelmum answers: If they are lace curtains , then I would suggest you wash them in the bath tub, with cold water to start with. Fold them and lay them flat in the tub. leave them to soak for a while. Pull the stopper out and let the water drain away. Then rinse them with the shower. When you wash them add a small amount of soft detergent liquid. when you rinse them add a softener. When you have finished the final rinse, leave them flat in the bath till most of the water has drained away , then hang them outside to dry. Laying them flat stops them being creased so much . and as they are old you have to be very careful with them. Shame I can´t come and help you do them. Hope this helps you a little
