...CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) recently recalled over 2 million drop-side baby cribs. The recall involves cribs from seven different companies. Parents and caregivers are becoming frustrated with the repeated recalls. The CPSP stated that it is aware of the frustrations parents were expressing over all these crib recalls, and that recalls were not the final solution. The solution is for companies to quit making baby cribs with a drop-down side. In fact, many stores now refuse to sell cribs with drop-sides, and several companies have quit making them.
The problem with drop-side cribs is the potential for the side to become unattached, which could allow for the baby’s head to become trapped between the crib side and the mattress. This could lead to suffocation. CPSC is aware that the deaths of 32 infants and toddlers have been caused by drop side cribs since 2001.

Have you seen anything like this or know where I could get one made? When is it time to move your toddler from a crib to a toddler bed?

She really doesn't try to climb out or anything yet and I am scared if I move her into a toddler bed she won't stay in it to go to sleep. She's always went to sleep on her own w/o rocking or anything so scared she will just get right back up when i lay her down. we're expecting another baby in January, so wondering when would be good to switch her over?? kittyrat234 answered: I have never transitioned from crib to toddler bed, but instead have done crib to crib mattress on the floor to toddler bed. This really helped my kids go from being barred while in bed to having freedom but having the security of being safe on the floor without the height of the bed. Once the child was used to sleeping without bars and was old enough / tall enough to get in and out without risking injury while awake or sleeping, we introduced the toddler bed.
Doing it as a three step process worked well for us. (For the mattress on the floor, we tucked it in a corner with internal walls and no windows so that it was warm and safe.)
