Middletown resident Greg Ranneberger used his skills as a former woodworker and the inspiration of his father to remodel a bedroom in his house for his son.

The room includes memorabilia from when his dad, Phil, played in a youth baseball World Series in New Mexico in the early 1960s, Ranneberger said.

His dad was a minor-league draft pick for the New York Yankees in 1967."I took unfinished wooden bats that major leaguers use (and I) ran them around the bedroom," Ranneberger, 35, said.

He studies the room where his 2-year-old son, Cooper Conrad, now sleeps. He didn't want to say if he wanted his son to pick up the sport. As for sports, he said one of his daughters, 8-year-old Emma Anne, might have the family's athletic genes, he said. Ranneberger points out a bat above a closet.
