Designer Jack Celli took a bit of a gamble with the design of the latest Princess Margaret Show Home in Thornhill. Where most homes show a neutral palette with small bites of colour, Celli went with a palette of reds subdued by greys, browns, beiges.

Each room in the home, idiosyncratic in its own right, is infused with red — a few rooms rich and decadent and opulent as a 1920s Paris hotel, but others less flashy.

But that’s sort of the point of these show houses. Yes, fundraising for a good cause is the ostensible raison d’être, but it’s also just fun to showcase what’s new, a little like fashion on the catwalks of Paris.

On the exterior, the home is solid, elegant even traditional, but the interior envelopes you from the front door with the red starting at the front entry and leading, like a trail of rose petals, from room to room, manifesting in one setting as an explosion of colour, and in another spare and more subtle.
