Local furniture manufacturers are optimistic that the International Home Furnishings Market, which opened Saturday in High Point, N.C., will reflect economic improvements that will lead to increased sales.

The furniture industry “continues to be mired in a sales slump,” said Jay Moore, advertising and marketing analytics director for Bassett Furniture Industries.

Yet “we have made good progress in positioning the company to return to growth and profitability,” Moore said, therefore “we are approaching this market and the remainder of the year with a sense of optimism.”
