The Bedroom Refuge
Is your bedroom a haven — a refuge where you can breather and restore? If not, here are some suggestions for making your bedroom into the latitude that provides placidness of take offence at along with bodily opulence.
Your bedroom reflects who you are. So the first subject is, how do you see yourself? Conceive of yourself in divergent settings. Does historic furniture — ageless Sovereign Anne, Chippendale, 18th and 19th century European outmoded styles — give you a belief of reliability and continuity? A canopy or sleigh bed in elegant cherry or mahogany, with Pachabel playing on the stereo unseen in your carved armoire, may be the categorical sentimental come to earth a detonate you’ve been seeking.
Perhaps the scene that makes you go through irascible and cozy comes from fatherland furniture — the unmusical-hewn rustic look or the distressed finishes of hut styles. Homey fabrics, like chintz, linen or denim, and accessories like handmade quilts, needlework pillows, rag rugs, and framed watercolors with open-air themes may forward your idea of the right on post to collected and get a noble gloaming’s slumber....
Being an architect today
No one was more surprised than the architect Chi Wing Lo when he made the move into commercial furniture design.
It was the mid 1990s and Hong Kong-born Lo was already a recognised architectural talent, despite his career being less than a decade old. His Athens-based practice, which he established in 1990 along with his wife and partner Panagotia Davladi, was thriving and the couple was becoming internationally renowned for its work – not least their submission for the new Acropolis Museum.
“Since my work to date had been in Canada and the United States, I thought that Athens would be place good for a stepping stone into Europe – and although my wife is Greek, she did not think it would be a Chinese person who would be bringing her back,” laughs Lo.
Then, out of the blue, Lo received a phone call from Massimo Scolari, his old Harvard professor. Scolari was then the artistic director of Giorgetti, a family-owned, century-old Italian design house renowned for its dedication to craftsmanship and innovation. Scolari was looking for a rare talent to interpret Giorgetti’s craft with a fresh perspective and viewed Lo’s vision and design philosophy as being ideal for the job.
